I had an idea to make a Donkey Kong Country style flash platform game featuring a character called Ginger Joe. I initially wanted it to be a Flash Game but I changed my mind once I realized how terribly slow Flash is(Steve jobs was right!). I want to put a lot of detail into the sprites and backgrounds of the game but with Flash that's just not an option. The game is still in early development but I have a lot of ideas about the story and the game-play already. At the moment I'm working on sprites and background tile sets.
I'm planning on the game being made all in 2D but I also want the game to feel very dimensional. The game-play will mix side scrolling style platforming with sections where the camera is behind Joe (still in 2D) and also isometric 3D sections. The view will change when you reach an item: One specific to each angle. I'll show some tests on this blog in a later post.
I plan on creating a trailer for Ginger Joe: Animating all the assets I've created together into one or several YouTube videos. I'll use these ads to raise interest and also funds by starting a Kickstarter campaign and including a link at the end of each vid for people to donate. I need to find a programmer too but I wont worry about that until after the ads are out. I'm sure people will be swarming to work on this indie game after they've seen it's potential in what will effectively be a pitch in the form of ads for the game. I might even get a company interested. Who knows.
Anyway. Pie in the sky dreams and all that. For now though, here are some enemy sprites:
